The US health authority CDC now officially states again that the coronavirus can also be transmitted via small particles floating in the air. Two weeks ago, the CDC caused a sensation because it first published a reference to this in its recommendations – and then withdrew it after a few days. The reason given was that a draft had been published erroneously too early.

Yesterday, the CDC reiterated in its guidelines that the virus could, under certain conditions, be transmitted over a longer distance than the six feet (about 1.8 meters) previously considered authoritative. This had been the case in poorly ventilated rooms. In addition, people sometimes breathed heavily, for example when singing or exercising.

According to the CDC, scientists believe that the concentration of the virus in the air could have increased due to the circumstances. In some cases, people who had been in the same place shortly after they had been infected were also infected. At the same time, the CDC limited that, according to available data, the majority of infections occur at close range.
